Beacon Safety System | Construction Site Hazard-Marking

The Beacon System uses powered-RFID technology to create virtual hazard perimeters around dome-shaped beacons placed strategically around a work site. When a worker wearing the accompanying safety glasses enters a perimeter, he or she receives a warning from flashing LEDs in the perimeter of their field of vision. This concept was developed in Integrated Product Development, Carnegie Mellon's industrial design capstone course. This course involved extensive collaboration with Mine Safety Appliances Inc, and was taught by IDSA president Eric Anderson.
